An exhibition in cooperation with the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, the International Summer Festival, FUTURES European Photography Platform and the Triennial of Photography Hamburg.
Referring to this year's theme Currency, the International Summer Festival at Kampnagel together with the House of Photography / Deichtorhallen Hamburg shows works by young photographers who are part of the European platform for photography FUTURES and who deal with exclusion, belonging and empowerment from systems of oppression from different perspectives. They show vulnerability and strength, fear and joy, alienation and community and produce new images about queerness, Blackness or migrant and Eastern European identity. BUT I'M AWAKE refers to a state of vigilance in times of political and social crisis and to a productive subversion of existing power relations and dominant visual habits of seeing.
With works by: Maria Babikova (b. 1990 in Chelyabinsk, Russia, lives in London), Euridice Zaituna Kala (b. 1987 in Maputo, Mozambique, lives in Paris), Julie Poly (b. 1986 in Stakhanov, Ukraine, lived in Kiev until recently), Agnieszka Sejud (b. 1991 in Oleśnica, Poland, lives in Wroclaw), and David Uzochukwu (b. 1998 in Innsbruck, Austria, lives in Berlin).
Curated by Corinna Humuza (Kampnagel), András Siebold (Kampnagel) and Ingo Taubhorn (House of Photography).
Guided Tour: On Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 6.30 pm with Ingo Taubhorn and the artists. No registration required.
