Julia Gaes
WIGS & GLOVES
Julia Gaes is fascinated by bodies. Over several summers she accompanied burlesque performers and dragqueens for her Polaroid work WIGS & GLOVES. Performances are presented in their great diversity of gender: drag, burlesque, queerlesque, vaudeville, cabaret, circus, belly dance and acrobatics. They create a queer space that allows freedom beyond binary thinking worlds. With humour, eroticism, irony and tragedy, their performance is political and queerfeminist. On the one hand it is funny, on the other erotic, absurd but also powerful. These subversive moments tell and show an incredible diversity.
